Can You Start a UAE Company Without Living There? Remote Setup Explained
You don't need to be in the UAE, or even to have visited, to form a company here. Here's exactly what can be done remotely — and the one part that needs a short trip.
One of the most common worries we hear from overseas founders is a simple one: do I have to fly to the UAE to set up my company? For most people, the answer is no — and even those who have never set foot in the country can begin.
Here's what can genuinely be done remotely, and where an in-person step is unavoidable.
Forming the company: fully remote
Choosing your package, reserving your trade name, selecting activities, submitting documents and paying — all of it happens online. You can complete a UAE company formation from your living room in another country. The trade licence itself does not require you to be physically present.
"But I've never entered the UAE"
This is the case that stops a lot of people, and it shouldn't. If you have never entered the UAE, you simply have no UAE visa or entry stamp to provide — so instead you supply your home-country national ID alongside your passport. It's a normal, expected situation, not a barrier. Overseas founders are exactly who remote setup is designed for.
What you'll need to provide
The document set is straightforward and all of it can be sent digitally: a clear passport scan, a passport-size photo with a white background, your national ID or a UAE visa copy if you have one, and your contact and address details. Clean scans matter more than location — a legible document from abroad beats a blurry one handed over in person.
The one part that needs a visit
There's a single exception, and it only applies if you want a UAE residence visa. The residence visa process includes a medical test and Emirates ID biometrics, both of which have to be done inside the UAE. That means a short trip — often just a few days — which we schedule for you once your company is formed. If you don't need a residence visa, even that isn't required.
Why this suits international founders
Setting up remotely is how a lot of consultants, online sellers and holding companies structure themselves in the UAE. You get 100% foreign ownership and a UAE trade licence without relocating, and you decide later whether and when to add residency. The company can exist and operate while you're still abroad.
Getting started
Pick a package, choose your activities and submit your documents online. If you'll want residency, we plan the short visit around your schedule. If you won't, the whole thing stays remote from start to finish.
*Residence-visa medicals and biometrics must be completed in the UAE. Approval of any company registration or visa rests with the competent UAE authorities.*
