When someone calls us about setting up in Dubai, the polished website questions aren't the ones they ask. They ask the blunt ones. Here are those, answered straight.

"Is it really 100% mine, or is there a catch?"

It's really yours. In a free zone you own the whole company, no local partner, no silent 51%. And for a lot of mainland activities, 100% foreign ownership is now allowed too, so the old "you need an Emirati partner" rule doesn't apply the way it used to. The catch people imagine mostly isn't there. What's true is that a licence and visas cost money every year, and approval sits with the authorities. That's it.

"What's the hidden cost nobody mentions?"

Fair question, because plenty of providers do hide things. The usual surprises are visas quoted separately after a low licence price, and the annual renewal. On our northern-emirate packages the price is genuinely all-in for the visa count you pick, so there's no visa surprise. Elsewhere, always ask one question: "is this price complete, and if not, what's missing?" A good provider answers it without flinching.

"Do I have to live in Dubai?"

No. You can form the company from your living room in another country, entirely online. You only need to visit if you want a residence visa, because the medical and Emirates ID steps happen here, and even then it's usually a short trip. Never been to the UAE at all? That's fine. You give your home-country ID instead of a visa copy, and plenty of our clients set up without having set foot here yet.

"How hard is it to open a bank account?"

Honestly, this is the part that takes patience. UAE banks are careful with every new company, and they'll ask for documents and a clear description of your business. It's very doable, and thousands of new companies open accounts every month, but it's not instant. Plan for a bit of back and forth rather than expecting a same-day account. A Dubai address and a clean, believable business story help.

"How fast can I actually start?"

For a free-zone licence with no visa, days, not weeks. Add visas and it stretches, mostly because of the immigration steps rather than the licence. The fastest people are the ones who have their documents ready and three name choices picked before they start.

"What if I pick the wrong package?"

Then we'd rather catch it before you pay. That's the honest answer. Setups go wrong when nobody sensible checks the plan first. Tell us what you actually do and who your customers are, and the right licence usually picks itself.
